Social Media Investigations
Social media investigations require a lot more than a simple knowledge of Twitter or Facebook. It is one of the many pros of the digital age, providing a low-cost alternative to traditional surveillance to attorneys and their clients.
You might require it to support character in court, filing for custody, divorces, and even criminal trials or as part of a background investigation. This can be used to provide additional information that can be utilized in a court of law as supplemental evidence for risk assessment, and for active monitoring. It gives you leverage which may be hard to get otherwise.
You will require a team of highly trained experts that ensure the data you gather is valuable before a court of law. Social Media Surveillance is a low-cost alternative to traditional surveillance because, traditional surveillance can be expensive, with costs adding up quickly when minimum timeframes are imposed and especially if multiple investigators are required to tail a subject properly. But there’s a much cheaper option – powerful programs that dig through social media accounts for useful information.
Consider spending $1500 for a standard 8-hour day on traditional surveillance with one investigator and no guarantee of a positive result whereas little budget of $250 on social media search will yield a better result.
Thanks to the wealth of personal information online, social media investigations can be used to ascertain someone’s character, check for illegal or inappropriate behavior, to find someone, or to prove (or disprove) an alibi. The complicated privacy settings and rules of sites like Facebook mean that most people don’t realize how easily accessible and public the information they post online actually is.
